Betfair Free Bet Review: £100 in Free Bets, Bonuses and Football Betting Offers

Betfair £100 in Free Bets

Betfair offer two excellent options for sports betting, the Betting Exchange and also the standard-bookmaker-style Sportsbook. This article is primarily concerned with the Sportsbook, but both areas of the Betfair site offer great free bets for new customers.

The free bets in both the Exchange and the Sportsbook are quite fluid, with different offers at different times of the year and for different events.

The current welcome offer for new customers to the sportsbook is the Betfair £100 in Free Bets Offer, which gives new customers the chance to claim 5x £20 free bets. For each of the £20 free bets you need to place five £10 real money bets at odds of at least 1/2, the £20 free bet being credited once the five qualifying bets have settled.

Quite often the Sportsbook offers a huge odds enhancement instead: for example on the 2014 Community Shield Arsenal were offered at odds of 12/1 instead of standard odds closer to 5/2. The maximum bet on these odds enhancements is almost always £10 and winnings above the standard fixed odds price are usually paid as free bets, rather than cash. Even so this can be an amazing offer, with those who backed Arsenal in the above example netting a profit of around £25 and free bets worth a further £95!

Check out the Betfair site to see the latest goodies up for grabs in the Sportsbook: it’s sure to be worth your while!

  • When Betfair started solely as a betting exchange they didn’t tend to have as many offers as major online and mobile bookies but the Sportsbook has changed all that and is now up there with the best.

Betfair are a British company and so they cover football betting in amazing depth, especially the Premier League, although virtually every league imaginable is also covered and there are loads of great promos, free bets and offers to support that. Some of the best ongoing offers are listed below but check the Promotions tab in the Betfair Sportsbook for all the latest betting bonuses, both for football and other sports.

  • Money Back Extra is an innovative promotion pioneered by Betfair which usually applies to a few games of football each week and offers you the chance to decide how the promotion works. For the specified game you will be given the chance to opt in to one of five “triggers”, for example a certain player to score, a red card to be shown in the game or both teams to score.

If your selected trigger occurs during the game you will receive a free bet refund on any losing bets you placed on the game on named markets, usually correct score, anytime correct score, first, last or anytime goalscorer bets. The maximum free bet from this offer is £25 and the freebies will only be valid for 48 hours once issued so use them quick-snap!

  • If you like a football acca – and few bets are more fun with huge wins possible – then Betfair’s Sportsbook is a fine choice, with Acca Insurance covering both match odds bets and both teams to score.

For BTTS you must pick at least four games and for match odds at least five but if just one game lets your accumulator bet down, thanks to the Betfair Sportsbook you’ll get a free bet refund of up to £25. Minimum odds apply to the bets and as with the Money Back Extra, the free bets are added shortly after the bet has settled, are valid for 48 hours and are stake not returned.

  • Betfair like to encourage people to try betting on new sports so often there will be free bets that offer you the chance to bet on football to earn a free bet for another big event in a different sport, or vice versa (i.e. bet on that sport to get a football freebie).

These are well worth grabbing and offer great value, with terms often standard, that is to say the stake isn’t returned with the free bet, minimum odds of 1/5 (1.20 in decimal) apply to the qualifier and the freebie must be used within a set period (often 48 hours depending on when the relevant event takes place).

  • As said, the Sportsbook has really improved the range of freebies on offer at Betfair and whilst there is definitely a big focus on football, other sports have their fair share – and then some! – of betting bonuses and promotions. As with many of the best online betting sites, Betfair will have tie-ins for most of the biggest events over a range of sports, with each way on some of golf’s biggest events down to as many as eight places or cashback promotions in tennis Grand Slams and similar offers.

  • Money Back Extra, detailed above, is offered on a range of sports, with rugby union one of the ones that features most commonly other than football. The terms are generally the same: pick a trigger and if it happens get a free bet refund of up to £25 on losing bets in the named markets.

  • The Sportsbook offers bettors the opportunity to cash out their bets in-play during most events and football matches. This means that if your bet is winning with five or 10 minutes to go you can cash it out for only a little less than you would win if you waited until full time. Alternatively, if your bet is losing you could cash out and rather than lose all of your stake you’d still get a little back. With the Sportsbook’s great promotion, the first time you use the Cash Out feature you’ll get a very juicy 100% cash bonus on your winnings.

The maximum bonus is £25 and the original bet must be an acca (trebles and upwards) but can be placed on any sport (including football). Markets eligible for Cash Out are marked with a small orange icon and as long as your bet ends up making a profit – whenever you choose to cash it out – you’ll get that nice cash bonus… thanks Betfair!

  • Betfair’s innovative spirit is behind the fantastic Price Rush and means that on all UK and Irish races (and certain other sports including football), if you place a bet on the Sportsbook and there are better odds available on the Exchange, Betfair’s technology will automatically grab those higher odds for you.

If you like betting on outsiders this can land you much, much better prices without the bother of checking the exchange AND without paying the 5% commission on winnings. With Best Odds Guaranteed on the races too your payouts could give you a nice surprise at the Betfair Sportsbook.

Betfair Overview and Conclusion

Betfair was founded in 1999, launching a year later and is a huge British success story. The business is now one of the biggest betting companies in the world, listed on the London Stock Exchange and handling a huge number of transactions quickly and efficiently every single day.

Originally a pioneering Betting Exchange only, Betfair have, over the years, branched out to offer all aspects of gambling, including poker, bingo, games, casino and, as of 2013, their Sportsbook, effectively allowing them to act as a traditional fixed odds online bookmaker. They have around one million active customers, hold gambling licenses in a range of countries including the US, Australia, Italy and Malta, where the Sportsbook itself is licensed and regulated and much of the Betfair operation is based (although they have offices in a number of countries and the head office is in England).

They handle more transactions every single day than all of the European stock exchanges combined and are one of the safest, most secure companies around. With numerous awards for innovation and business, including several prestigious Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, they are a company with a great reputation and one that can be fully trusted.

The Exchange was ground-breaking and almost always beats the odds you will find at most rivals but the Sportsbook too offers strong odds, especially if the market is applicable for the Price Rush offer mentioned above. The range of markets – especially for football, from the Champions League to the FA Cup and everything in between – is also excellent but it’s the offers you’ll get at the Sportsbook that make it so hard to beat.

With great customer service too, not to mention a slick site – both online and on mobile – Betfair is certainly one of the best betting sites around, both for fans of the Beautiful Game and of other sports. Throw in superlative in-play betting, masses of events available for live streaming and the polished products across all gambling areas (their online casino is absolutely first rate) and it’s easy to see why Betfair has been such a success.
